New paper "Global stocks and capacity of mineral-associated soil organic carbon" published in Nature Communications
This study, led by Katerina Georgiou, compiled over 1000 soil profile measurements of mineral-associated organic matter and used these measurements to estimate the global capacity for mineral-associated soil carbon, finding that most soils are well under their theoretical capacity. It also investigated the sequestration rate of soils with different capacity and saturation levels using 103 measurements of C accrual after management, finding that the most undersaturated soils can accrue C at higher rates.
